Falling into Fun!

It’s getting cooler, the leaves are falling, the smell of apples is in the air, and vibrant colors are bursting forth. With the change in the weather, don’t forget to continue to get outside and engage in some physical activity! Here are some fun activities to keep you busy through the fall!

1. Go for a ride or hike to enjoy the colors

Put on your hiking boots or grab you bikes and helmets, and head to the nearest state park to check out the fall colors. Collect some leaves and continue the fun at home by making crayon leaf rubbings.

2. Go on a hayride to a pumpkin patch

This time of year, many local farms have hayrides to pumpkin patches. Costs are usually minimal and, sometimes, include a pumpkin for each participant. Get outside, enjoy the cooler air, and bring home some pumpkins!

3. Decorate and/or carve pumpkins

There are so many fun ways to decorate and carve pumpkins. Use stickers, get out the paint and paint brushes, or even melt crayon wax over the candle. This can also be a good activity for children who struggle with sensory issues. Have the kids feel around inside the pumpkin and pull out the seeds so you can toast them later for a yummy snack.

4. Pile up those leaves

Who doesn’t like to jump in a pile of leaves?! Get a rake, and get to work. Put the kids to work too! This fun activity gets the kids moving, and the end reward is well worth their efforts.

5. Go apple picking

Visit a local orchard, and pick some apples. Most orchards will give you a bag or bucket and send you and your family out to the orchard on your own. Bring your apples home, and slice them up for snacks, make cider, or bake an apple pie!
